Last night, I emailed Stacey in Cairo. And she emailed back! She said, "Let me call you!" I said, "OK!" She was emailing me from an internet cafe a couple blocks from her apartment so she had to run home first to get her headphones. Why? Because she calls me through a hook-up with the internet! Finally, the phone rings and I hear Stacey say, "Mom?! It's Stacey!" I have not actually talked to her since August...it was wonderful to hear the excitement in her voice...(and Egyptian men in the background speaking Arabic!). She starts telling me about her experiences in Cairo (her week-long visit with a Bedouin family, her donkey-cart ride, her camp-out in the Sahara, her relief that Egyptian men aren't attracted to her body type ["No one has touched my butt!"], her upcoming cruise down the Nile River, and her month-long travel itinery - Syria, Lebanon, and "hopefully" Israel) in November, and - of course - her classes. Yes, she IS taking classes... OK - so the reason we wanted to talk was to discuss the "paper chase." When Stacey first arrived in Egypt, she discovered a section of Cairo called "Garbage City" (which is another story!) where they recycle trash (makes sense!) and produce handmade paper products: cards, sheets of paper, etc. She purchased a pack of blank notecards and then mentioned to Jacquie that she thought they would be cool to use for the wedding invitations. So, last night, I detailed for Stacey the number, size, and other requirements of the aforementioned cards. Today, Stacey will be taking a 20 pound taxi ride (it will cost 20 pounds!) and a 15 minute walk to get to "Garbage City" to get the cards we will be using for the invitations. Pretty cool, huh? Better than the cards for sale at AC Moore, that's for sure!
